UPDATED COURSE CALENDAR FOR 2018

Our parent company, Surepath Training, has just complete a periodic review of their course calendar and made some changes.  The new calendar can be downloaded from here.

Upcoming courses in May include:

  • Shallow Foundations and Settlement, on 3 May
  • Mentoring for Engineering Geologists on Geotechnical Engineering (1.5 days equivalent), on 8 May
  • The ICE Professional Review – Preparing for the Written Exercise, on 10 May
  • Essentials of Project Management, on 17 May
  • CDM 2015 – Three Years On (half day), on 22 May
  • Managing and Leading Teams, on 24 May

In addition to these standard day courses, they are pleased to be running their inaugural Design Programme on Soil Slope Stability and Earthworks .  This programme of 6 evening  courses starts on 30 May.  It allows delegates to explore the subject matter in more depth than possible during a typical day course.

All courses are running in Chesterfield.  Discounts are available for group bookings or delegates attending more than one course. Please call or email us, or them, to reserve your place on a course.

COURSES IN 2018

We are pleased to announce that the Surepath Training course calendar for 2018 is now available on their website – just click on this link to access your own copy in a new window.

We hope the expanded list of courses offered as ‘open’ courses rather than just bespoke will be welcomed and will aid the planing of your staff development activities.  Remember discounts are available for group bookings or delegates attending more than one course.  Please call or email us to reserve your place on a course.

IS 70:20:10 RIGHT?

During a recent mentoring session, a mentee asked: “what is the most effective way to learn and develop?”  The stock answer is the 70:20:10 model, which suggests that 70% of knowledge and understanding is gained from on-the-job experience, 20% from self-study, mentoring and learning from others, and 10% from training courses and the like.  This model originated in the 1980’s based on research into what helped successful managers develop.  So is it valid for the construction industry?  We have been thinking about this further as part of our mentoring work and we have prepared a short article on it, mainly aimed at graduates but others may find it useful too.  If you are interested to read it then just click here.

LAST FEW COURSES IN 2017

The end of 2017 is approaching and we are busy preparing the course calendar for 2018.  There is still time to book onto just a few courses with spaces in 2107:

  • Slope Stability – Principles and Practice (28 November)
  • Mentoring for Engineering Geologists on Geotechnical Engineering (30 November)
  • The ICE Professional Review – Overview and Preparation (7 December)
  • Introduction to Structural Design to the Eurocodes (12 December)

Each course is running in Chesterfield.  Discounts are available for group bookings or delegates attending more than one course. Please call or email us to reserve your place on a course.

Remember too that all courses can be run bespoke for your company if there are sufficient numbers – just call us to see what we could do for you.

COURSES IN OCTOBER 2017

With summer over, and new graduates starting maybe, now is a good time to look at your staff development needs.  We have numerous courses coming up in October, including:

Geotechnical Design to Eurocode 7, 3 October 2017 (£295 + VAT)
This course looks at the practical application of EC7 in design using worked examples and discussion sessions.  It provides the equivalent of 1.5 days training in a ‘long day’ format.

Essentials of Project Management, 12 October 2017 (£220 + VAT)
Especially useful for those looking to sit their ICE review in 2018 and those new to project management, the course examines what constitutes good practice to deliver a successful project.

Retaining Wall Design – Principles and Practice, 17 October 2017 (£220 + VAT)
The analysis, design and performance of gravity and embedded retaining walls will be explored using worked examples and with reference to current design codes.

ICE Professional Review – Preparing for the Written Exercise, 19 October 2017 (£220 + VAT)
Lead by an experienced ICE reviewer, the course is aimed at those sitting their professional review in 2018. It will explore what makes a good Written Exercise before discussing typical questions.
